Modern day technology has changed a lot of the way we do things. One of its many advantages is the ability to call people who are far away on our phones. We can see their faces on a video call. It feels like you’ve never really been away from them. This is the usual way I would call my parents and siblings. If I ever call my mum through audio only, she quickly asks to switch to a video call. She wants to see our faces.
I remember calling home some time back and while chatting with them I couldn’t see my Dad’s face. I could see a bit of his arms and shadows of him here and there. At one point during the conversation, he stood up and moved from one place to another. I could intermittently see his figure in the lens of my phone’s camera but couldn’t see his face. So I said “Daddy I want to see your face.” He came closer and brought his face into the camera. It made me glad. Seeing their faces makes me look at them close up. I am able to notice if they are tired, joyful, or stressed. I can tell if they look unwell. It just makes the connection feel a little deeper. I want to lock eyes with them and that’s not possible if I can’t see their faces.
My dad called me recently. As we got talking and the conversation lingered, his face was fully on my phone screen. Our conversation ranged from exclamation to laughter. We expressed relief and asked about each other’s welfare before we both signed out. As I thought about it, I remembered today’s verse – “Seek his face always”.
In our fellowship with The Lord, sometimes we are so in a hurry. Our busy schedules get in the way we are not able to linger a bit. Sometimes all we want to do is drop our list at His feet, and rush out the door. At some other times we just want His hands to come and sort out an issue we are facing. Sometimes we are too desperate for a miracle. We grab any Angel we can find to come with us to battle. (This is me sometimes😄).
Today’s verse reminds us to seek His face always. Not just His powerful hands, or His feet or His angelic host, but His face. Seeking His face means staying with Him. It involves taking the time to fellowship with our God and Heavenly Father. It is about locking eyes with The One who made us. He is the very source of our existence. If we leave as quickly as we came in, we miss having intimate moments with our Father. We miss out on fellowship. We miss Him seeing us in our faces. We miss Him breathing His life, grace, and sustenance on us.
I want to capture His face each time I step into His presence. I don’t just want a shadow of Him, an angelic being, or to see the train of His robe. I don’t want to rush in and rush out. I want to see His face.
As we step into a new week I pray you will increase your staying power. You will linger so as to lock eyes with Him. You will stay to behold Him. You will keep coming back to seek Him – The One who is Life Himself.
“Daddy, I want to see Your face, everyday of this life You have given me – I really do”
